Effect of Curcumin (Standard and Supplement) with Zinc on Reproductive Hormones in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Rats

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex and heterogeneous disorder that affects large percentage of women worldwide. The pathophysiology not fully explained. In recent years, complementary alternative medicine has emerged as viable treatment option. This study examined how curcumin zinc affected on reproductive hormones in rats with polycystic (PCOS). It was induced by oral administration letrozole (1mg/kg/day) for 21 days. PCOS groups were treated over 14 days standard 200 mg/kg, supplement 30 mg /kg (separately or combination two forms curcumin), metformin 50 mg/kg treatment. blood biochemistry these compared to those the healthy, PCOS, who received metformin. immunoassay ELISA technique employed measuring concentration hormones. results manifested resulted significant elevation (p≤0.05) luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating testosterone, prolactin associated decrease p≤0.05) estrogen progesterone levels PCOS-designed model. effect alone showed improvement all parameters reducing prolactin. Estrogen elevated significantly groups, while highly both zinc. their promising restoring normal level.
